The NSW Net Zero Commission has launched a Call for Evidence to help develop the state’s first dedicated decarbonisation pathways, with communities, industries and individuals all invited to contribute.

New South Wales has legislated emissions reduction targets and a commitment to reach net zero by 2050. To develop pathways that reflect the real challenges and opportunities ahead, the Commission says it needs evidence and data from those who know their sectors and communities best.

The Call for Evidence will examine three key areas: improving the effectiveness of NSW’s transition to net zero, managing sector and workforce transitions, and addressing socio-economic priorities to ensure a just transition for all communities.

For the Hunter, the process carries particular weight. The region’s coal mining and energy industries are central to both the state’s economy and its decarbonisation challenge, with tens of thousands of jobs and dozens of communities tied to the transition ahead.

Industry groups, businesses, researchers, community organisations and individuals are all encouraged to make a submission. The Call for Evidence closes on Friday, July 31, with details available at www.nsw.gov.au/have-your-say/call-for-evidence-on-pathways.
