Plans for a major Regional Entertainment Centre in Muswellbrook are moving ahead, marking a significant step in the town’s long‑term CBD redevelopment.
Development approval has been granted for the demolition of Brook Street Plaza and 116 Bridge Street, with tenders expected to be released in the coming weeks. Once complete, the facility will include a 400‑seat theatre, large performance stage, orchestra pit, green rooms, loading dock and a direct connection to the library precinct.
Muswellbrook Shire Council’s director of infrastructure and property, Matthew Lysaught, said the project would help reshape the identity of the town.
“The Regional Entertainment Centre is a game‑changing asset for arts, culture and entertainment in the Upper Hunter,” he said, adding there was no comparable facility between Tamworth and Cessnock.
The entertainment centre forms part of a broader vision for the CBD, with construction also underway on Possum Park. The multi‑stage redevelopment spans the precinct between Brook and Hill streets and aims to create a connected and vibrant town centre.

Possum Park will transform an under‑utilised area into a central gathering space featuring landscaped green areas, shaded seating, water and sensory play, a children’s playground, public art and upgraded pedestrian connections. Regal Innovations has been engaged to deliver the project, with completion expected by December.
Mayor Jeff Drayton said the redevelopment represents a transformational investment in Muswellbrook’s future.
“This is about creating a modern, vibrant CBD that supports our community today while preparing Muswellbrook for the years ahead,” he said.
