People with disability across the Hunter will benefit from strengthened advocacy services as the State Government invests more than $75 million in representative disability organisations statewide.
The funding will support 20 not-for-profit, non-government organisations to deliver individual, systemic and representative advocacy to all people with disability in NSW, regardless of whether they are a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participant. Locally, Advocacy Law Alliance Ltd is one of the funded providers, delivering individual advocacy services across the Hunter New England, Northern NSW and Mid North Coast regions, as well as Western Sydney and Western NSW.
Under the changes, contract lengths for funded providers will more than double, extending from two years to five, in line with the government’s Secure Jobs and Funding Certainty agreement. The government says secure funding gives community organisations certainty to retain experienced staff and expand services with confidence.
