A taskforce will be established to fix long-term building problems at Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital.
It follows an independent building assessment that found structural issues, including risks around mould and moisture, issues with HVAC systems, water ingress and mould across the facility.
The works will target mould, water damage and ageing infrastructure across the campus.
Health Minister Ryan Park says the State Government stepped in earlier this year after Novacare repeatedly failed to fix the problems.
“On the ground Calvary is just as frustrated with Novacare as everyone else,” said Park.
“The Novacare PPP is complex and Novacare repeatedly failed to rectify multiple maintenance issues, racking up millions in abatements. Earlier this year, we formed the view that we could no longer wait for Novacare to act, and we stepped in to rectify the cladding and undertake cleaning, some of which has already been completed.
“We also undertook a building condition report to help identify more long-term structural issues which will help guide further rectification moving forward.”
Cladding remediation work is already underway, with the project expected to finish in mid-2027.
