Temps to soar as Hunter is gripped by extreme heatwave

Residents of the Upper Hunter are being warned to expect sweltering temperatures heading into the long weekend.

The Bureau has issued an extreme heatwave warning for the Hunter district from Wednesday to Friday, with the mercury set to hit over 40 degrees on Australia Day.

Public pools in Muswellbrook, Denman, Scone, Murrurundi and Merriwa have free entry on January 26, while Singleton Council’s Twilight event runs on Australia Day eve, avoiding the brunt of tomorrow’s forecast high of 41C.

NSW Health’s heatwave recommendations include staying indoors in the hottest part of the day, keeping hydrated, wearing sun protection, and seeking out cool places or air-conditioned public facilities.
