The NSW Opposition has unveiled a Regional Infrastructure Guarantee, promising to dedicate 25 per cent of infrastructure funding to regional NSW if the Liberal and Nationals win the next state election.
Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane and NSW Nationals Leader Gurmesh Singh announced the policy alongside Upper Hunter MP Dave Layzell, arguing that regional communities have been overlooked in infrastructure investment. Gurmesh Singh noted that a quarter of all people in NSW live outside Greater Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.
The Opposition says the guarantee would fund improvements to roads, water infrastructure, hospitals, schools, rail and bridges across regional NSW. Member for Upper Hunter Dave Layzell said communities including Singleton, Muswellbrook, Gloucester, Dungog and Scone would benefit from the commitment.
“Our Regional Infrastructure Guarantee will mean that we get our fair share. When it comes to hospitals and schools, water infrastructure, roads rail and bridges, Upper Hunter won’t be left behind,” Mr Layzell said.
The Minns Government’s latest budget does not include a single headline allocation for regional NSW, but project‑level commitments add up to well over $10 billion across health, roads, schools and disaster recovery over the forward estimates
has not yet responded to the announcement. The next NSW state election is scheduled for March 2027.
