A new committee has been established to manage a community fund supporting Gummun Place Hostel, following discussions at the facility’s February Advisory Committee meeting. The group has been formed by the Friends of Gummun Place and will operate under a set of guiding principles that include representation from the operator of the hostel.
Deputy Mayor Pat Ryan said the committee’s creation highlights the community’s ongoing commitment to the hostel and its residents.
“It’s encouraging to see members of the community stepping forward to ensure there is a clear and transparent structure in place to manage funds that directly benefit Gummun Place,” he said.
Expressions of Interest for the operation of Gummun Place Hostel as an assisted boarding house have now closed. Council staff are currently reviewing the submissions and preparing a report for an extra‑ordinary Council meeting scheduled for next week.
Following that meeting, Council will begin the next steps required to transition the hostel.
