University of Newcastle experts, industry leaders and policymakers will come together today to examine the future of Hunter Valley wine as debate intensifies around the newly negotiated Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement.
Some have described the agreement as a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Australian exporters, but the deal continues to face intense scrutiny in Parliament. Organisers say that makes this a significant moment for regional producers.
The roundtable is being hosted by the University of Newcastle Wine Studies Network, supported by the Institute for Regional Futures and the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources. Business and law experts from the university will be joined by representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the EU Delegation to Australia and the trade sector.
Together they will consider how the Hunter Valley wine industry can respond to changing international markets, capture new opportunities and build resilience for the future.
The event will run from 11am to 1:30pm on Friday 30 October at X803, NUspace, at the University of Newcastle, followed by a networking lunch with an opportunity to sample Hunter Valley wines.
It is open to the public, but registration is essential through Eventbrite.
