More than 700 drivers have allegedly been detected driving with drugs in their systems during a statewide police traffic operation conducted last week.

Operation RAID, which stands for Remove All Impaired Drivers, ran from early Thursday morning on 7 May through to Sunday morning on 10 May. The operation focused on identifying motorists affected by alcohol, drugs or fatigue through roadside testing.

During the operation, police conducted more than 8,400 roadside drug tests, with 708 positive results recorded. More than 161,000 breath tests were also carried out, leading to 211 drink‑driving offences.

In the Northern Region, police recorded 197 positive drug tests and laid 70 PCA charges. Officers also conducted more than 31,000 breath tests and issued hundreds of traffic infringements.

Across the state, police issued more than 5,200 other infringement notices during the operation, including offences for speeding, mobile phone use and failing to wear restraints. Police say high‑visibility enforcement will continue in an effort to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on NSW roads.
