Ten new rest area locations along the New England Highway and Golden Highway have been fitted with green reflective markers to help truck drivers combat fatigue and find safe stopping points.

The roadside markers are installed on guideposts at the approach to informal heavy vehicle rest areas, giving drivers a clear visual signal that a safe place to pull over is nearby — particularly useful at night or during periods of poor visibility.

New England Highway sites include rest areas at Ardglen, Murulla, Wingen, Muswellbrook and Liddell. The latest Golden Highway additions are located east of Denman, east of Warkworth and east of Mount Thorley.

The State Government says the program is aimed at making it easier for heavy vehicle drivers to locate suitable stopping locations and reduce the risks associated with driver fatigue on regional roads.
