Transgrid has completed a comprehensive bushfire prevention program across its Hunter transmission network, helping prepare critical electricity infrastructure and support reliable supply for local communities ahead of summer.

Between April and September this year, the company completed 509 vegetation management and network maintenance activities across the region. It also inspected nine substations, 2,440 transmission structures and more than 1,200 kilometres of transmission line.

Executive General Manager of Network Jason Krstanoski said bushfire preparedness starts long before summer.

“We invest heavily in vegetation management, inspections and maintenance activities across the network throughout the off-season,” he said.

“This work helps ensure critical electricity infrastructure is resilient, well-maintained and prepared to operate safely throughout the bushfire season.”

Transgrid also recently completed a major renewal project on a transmission line extending north from Tomago. The project replaced 24 wood pole structures, six kilometres of conductor and seven kilometres of earthwire, helping reduce bushfire risk and strengthen the long-term resilience of the network. Mr Krstanoski said the company was proud to have worked with local suppliers, including Allied Cranes in Tomago.
