The clock is ticking for Hunter residents to turn their cans and bottles into books for disadvantaged children, with Return and Earn partnering with The Smith Family in a bid to raise $200,000 before 23 November.
Under the campaign, every 30 eligible drink containers recycled will fund one book for a student experiencing disadvantage.
In the Hunter region alone, The Smith Family supports 1,120 students through Learning for Life, reached 1,920 children and young people through its programs in the 2024-25 financial year, and partners with about 25 local schools.
Hunter residents can drop off containers at a number of local sites, including Pursehouse Rural Suppliers and Muswellbrook Marketplace in Muswellbrook, Singleton Golf Club and Singleton Plaza in Singleton, Merriwa Sports Club, and the Campbells Corner carpark in Scone.
