Construction is set to begin on the Muswellbrook Solar Farm and Battery project, marking a significant milestone in the Hunter region’s renewable energy transition.
Renewable energy developer OX2 has reached financial close on the project, which will be built on the site of a former coal mine around 2.5 kilometres east of Muswellbrook, within the Hunter Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone.
The development includes a 135 megawatt solar farm and a 100 megawatt battery energy storage system, capable of powering 52,310 homes. Up to 200 jobs are expected to be created during construction, with the project scheduled to be operational in 2028.
OX2 says it will contribute around $115,000 each year to a Community Benefit Sharing Program under a voluntary planning agreement with Muswellbrook Shire Council.
Vice President of OX2 Australia Stephen Symons said the project demonstrated the company’s long‑term commitment to Australia’s energy future and regional communities.
