Construction on the Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment is continuing to progress, almost one year after works began on site.
The NSW Government is investing $138 million into the redevelopment, which will deliver a new two‑storey acute services building designed to meet the future health needs of the local community.
The new building will include an expanded emergency department, operating theatres and day surgery spaces, two new inpatient wards, a sterilising services unit, medical imaging services and a modern pharmacy.
Excavation works are well advanced, with concrete footings now installed and ground floor slab pours underway. Almost 4,500 cubic metres of concrete will be used to construct the building’s structure.
The project is expected to support around 250 direct jobs, along with hundreds of indirect jobs, and is scheduled for completion in late 2027. All hospital services will continue to operate during construction.
Minister for Health Ryan Park said once complete, it will be a massive boost to health services in the Hunter.
“The Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment will deliver enhanced health services and a contemporary health facility that will support the health needs of the local community well into the future,” he said.
“This redevelopment will ensure patients in Cessnock continue to have access to high-quality health care in a modern purpose built, patient centred health facility.”
