Upper Hunter Shire Council is calling for Expressions of Interest for the purchase of three horses currently in its care. The animals were seized under the Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021 after no responsible owner could be identified to take over their welfare.
Up for sale are the following:
- 1x Aged Standard Bred Bay Gelding – approx. 15 hands, age unknown
- 1x Brown Thoroughbred Mare – approx. 15-16 hands, 12 years old
- 1x Bay Filly – approx. 13 hands, age unknown

Council says the horses may be sold individually or as a group, depending on the applications received. Inspections can be arranged through Council’s Compliance Officer during office hours by calling 02 6540 1100.
Expressions of Interest close at 5pm on Monday, 16 February 2026.
