It’s been a long and troubling year across the globe, and sadly not everyone survived it. In 2025 we lost some incredible people, some who did good, some who changed the world, and some who inspired us. Here are those we lost in 2025.
Adam Selwood (41)

What was an incredibly devastating loss for the footy world. West Coast Eagles legend Adam Selwood took his own life on May 17th.
Colin Burdett (94)

Former Olympian Colin Burdett passed away on the 2nd of March. He was part of the very first Boomers team to qualify in Basketball in 1956 in the Olympic Games held in Melbourne.
Gene Hackman (95)

This Hollywood veteran known for iconic roles in Superman: The Movie, Unforgiven, and The French Connection. Hackman passed away due to sever heart diseased complicated by advanced alzheimers.
Hulk Hogan (71)

Hulk Hogan, a legend on the screen and more notably in the ring. Hogan was a heavy weight champion of the world and movie star, starring in flicks such as Rocky III and Suburban Commando. On July 24th, it was announced that Hogan had passed away in his own home and collapsed whilst undergoing therapy.
Diane Keaton (79)

Academy award winning Diane Keaton had an extremely long and successful career. She was still acting up until 2024 when she chose to step away. On October 11th she passed away to Pneumonia.
Dame Jane Goodall (91)

Jane Goodall was an anthropologist and primatologist that completed changed how was saw our genetic neighbours the chimpanzees. She spent an enormous portion of her life creating sanctuaries protecting animals. Goodall died in her sleep on October 1st, she was found at home in bed.
Julian McMahon (56)

Australia’s own Julian McMahon acted in major motion pictures such as Fantastic Four (2005), and Charmed. Sadly he passed away after a private battle with cancer and his death was reported on 2nd of July.
Loretta Swit (87)

A veteran from the groundbreaking sitcom M*A*S*H, Loretta Swit left her mark on the American TV scene with her role of Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan. Even earning two Emmy Awards. She died at home in New York City, on the 30th of May.
Ozzy Osbourne (76)

Black Sabbath co-founder Ozzy Osbourne left us this year when he died from a heart attack at his home in Buckinghamshire on the 22nd of July.
Pope Francis (88)

Pope Francis from Argentina held the position of Pope from March 2013, until his passing on April 13th this year. He had a stroke which then led to cardiac arrest.
Robert Redford (89)

Redford was active in the film industry from 1958-2025, amassing an incredible 67-year long career. Perhaps best known for The Natural, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids, and All The Presidents Men. He died on the 16th of September at his home in Utah.
Val Kilmer (65)

Former Batman and Top Gun actor, Val Kilmer, had a long and successful career inspiring many young actors to follow in his footsteps. He passed away in April due to pneumonia after recovering from cancer.
