If you had to pick the sexiest man alive right now, who would it be?
Your friend, a top celebrity, your husband, or the person writing this article? (Thank you). This year the true title goes to Noah Wyle, the 55-year-old actor best known for roles such as Dr John Carter on the long-running medical drama ER and now Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on HBO Max’s hit series ‘The Pitt ’, has been named People magazine’s sexiest Man Alive for 2026. When Noah received the announcement, it genuinely surprised the actor.
“I thought that sounded like a prank — just not in a million years did I think that this would be an honour bestowed on me,” says the actor.

Thanks to Sara Wells (his wife), he ultimately was persuaded to accept the title.
“She thinks I’m a good guy and that the kind of person that I am and the kind of father I am, the kind of husband I am, is worth promoting,” he says. “I thought, ‘Okay, if you say so.’ Not to mention, “she was very pleased that this reflects well on her taste,” he adds.

He first rose to fame in the 1990’s as the earnest Dr Carter on ER, appearing on a People “Sexy Men of ER” alongside George Clooney (who later won the Sexiest Man Alive title twice) Eriq La Salle, and Anthony Edwards. After stepping back from ER to prioritise family following the birth of his son, he returned to the genre with ‘The Pitt’, which he also executive-produces, directs, and writes. The show is set in a Pittsburgh trauma centre and filmed in real time over a single shift per season. Whyle has won two consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the role, calling the resurgence his “second lightning strike”
Season 3 is set to return in January 2027.

Off-screen, Wyle reads as grounded and domestic. He makes breakfast, journals, does Pilates and kettlebell workouts, walks the dogs, and finds doing the dishes therapeutic.

He says the secret to his marriage is humour. One early romantic gesture involved custom photo-and-memento books for Sara that included his kids from his previous marriage to Tracy Warbin. He knew she was “the one” after she helped defuse his guilt over accidentally hitting a hawk with his car by simply saying, “He chose you.”
Fatherhood changed his priorities early. He has described leaving ER after his first son’s birth as a kind of “divorce with visitation rights” so he could be more present. He is grateful for his wife, children, living parents, work, colleagues, and mentors. Day to day, he is a Gemini who admits to scrolling Instagram for survival gear, dislikes being late, feels most at home in Santa Ynez, has a skill for catching flies, an irrational fear of maggots, and a bucket-list dream of hosting Saturday Night Live. A potential memoir title? Noah’s Arc.

Wyle has also used his platform as a global brand ambassador for FIGS, championing healthcare workers and efforts to reduce medical debt, drawing inspiration from real physicians such as Dr Joe Sachs.
He expects plenty of ribbing from friends and family over the title and joked that Clooney might feel “like a proud papa.” As for whether the honour changes anything, he laughed: “I hope this changes everything. I hope it’s just wine and roses, milk and honey from here on out. No, I don’t, but I am going to take a lot of ribbing from friends and family for sure.” At 55, with a career extending the founding ER era to a new generation of Pitt fans, Wyle represents a version of the Sexiest Man Alive title that esteems humour, steadiness, and family as much as leading-man presence. People has named a Sexiest Man Alive since 1985; Wyle follows 2025’s Jonathan Bailey and joins a list that has included Clooney, Patrick Dempsey, Paul Rudd, and others.

One fan said:
“Excellent choice! Congratulations Noah 🥳 He is a huge philanthropist and developed the Noah Wyle Foundation which focuses on fighting food insecurity, supporting mental illness resources for children, and aiding underprivileged communities. He donates a lot of money to various other organizations. He partners with Doctors of the World, LA Children’s Hospital and burn unit, human rights and animal organizations and more. He’s humble, funny, generous, family oriented and cute as a button. I think physical looks are only one component of sexy. 🥰”

and another saying;

“I love Noah Wyle – always have (since his ER days), always will (in his Pitt days). I have respected his acting credibility and love the personalities he brings to his characters. I remember when he and George Clooney did an episode on Friends – it was so funny compared to his ER character. Now that I have read what a great husband and father he is, I love him that much more. Sara, you and your family are extremely blessed. I am fortunately blessed with a husband like Noah – we are very lucky women. Congrats on the award!”
