This sounds like an episode of The Simpsons.

A man who was currently enjoying a cruise ship trip in the Caribbean has attempted to flee the cruise after earning himself a $16,000 gambling debt.

On Sunday, September 7th, Jay Xander Omar Gonzalez-Diaz jumped overboard from the cruise ship as it was docking in San Juan, attempting to evade paying his debt. He was however caught and arrested shortly after.

After jumping overboard he was picked up by two jet skiers and was taken to shore, all this was captured on CCTV, so when he was found on shore he was picked up by Border Protection Officers. He was however found with some interesting items. He was found with $14,600 in cash, two different phones and five IDs. He was interviewed about why he jumped overboard specifically to which he responded in Spanish that he ‘did not want to report the currency in his possession because he thought he was going to be taxed on the duties for bringing in the currency’.

After all this, if convicted the man could be charged with over $25,000 in fines and potentially 5-years in prison.
