May be I am just getting old and grumpy. But I feel that television in this country has dramatically declined. It is not what it used to be.
These days there is plenty of competition. Netflix, Stan, Foxtel and then the free to air stations. It is the free to air stations I have the issues with. On the streaming services and Foxtel, there are new shows to watch all the time. There are sitcoms, documentaries, mini series and even tele movies. On free to air all we seem to get these days is reality TV. Though most of it I feel is scripted to a point to try and entice us to watch. I want to know why the network stations feel this rubbish is what us, the viewer is after. I mean, we don't have a choice unless we pay. I am lucky I have Fox, Netflix and Stan. Though at times still find not much to watch.
So as the consumer. How do we let the networks know the tripe they are serving is no longer what we want. It is with emails and writing letters to voice our concerns over the current programming. Without us all getting up and complaining. Then things will stay the same as it is easy, cheap TV.
It is sad that actors and actresses struggle to find work and have to leave Australia to do so. This is because the mini series, sitcom and tele movies are a thing of the past. At least for network TV. I must though, that the ABC still produce some great entertainment and so does SBS.
For me these days. It is pay for quality and watch SBS and ABC more often. Does this mean I am getting old? No way. It just means. I want better quality viewing than is being dished up.
Can you tell me, with the exception of shows on SBS and the ABC. When did the networks give us something new and worth our viewing time?
