You might as well take a seat at your desk

You might have seen those standing desks in some offices. You may have even used one. But can they stand up to their critics?

A report suggests they aren’t necessarily the cure-all to too much sitting by office-workers.

The Finnish Institute for Occupational Health say: 

• To help reverse the ill effects of sitting, you'd have to stand at least 2-to-4 hours a day.

• Most people with a ‘sit-stand desk’ sit more than they realize.

• There is actually very little difference in energy expenditure between sitting and standing.

• Standing all day can lead to an increase in back pain, varicose veins, and/or fatigue at the end of the day.

Rather than a standing desk, most people surveyed say they find it better to set a timer to remind them to stand up, get a glass of water, and take a walk around the office.
