A national plan to provide better mental health support for veterans will be delivered by the end of 2020.
Federal, state and territory veterans' affairs ministers met in Canberra on Friday to discuss the plan, as well as ways to improve compensation and rehabilitation for veterans and find them work as they shift to civilian life.
In a joint statement, the ministers agreed to better cooperation between different levels of government, healthcare providers and the veteran community in order to ensure veterans and their families have the support they need, when and where they need it.
The ministers will also ask the Australian Bureau of Statistics to include a question regarding Australian Defence Force service in the 2021 Census.
An update was given on the development of six Veterans' Wellbeing Centres around Australia.
