NSW Rural Crime Investigators have arrested a man over hay fraud including here in the Hunter Valley.

Strike Force Woden was created earlier this week after police received numerous reports of a person advertising hay bales on social media at a discounted price - in every case the seller was taking an initial deposit for the fodder but the buyer received no product.

There have been reports in a number of areas including the Hunter Valley of exactly the same incident.

Reports have also been coming out of the Mid North Coast, the Southern Highlands, the Hills, and the Oxley, Nepean, and Port Stephens areas and a number of people have lost money as a result of the scam.

At about 7.40am today (Thursday 23 January 2020), Strike Force Woden investigators, assisted by Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad, executed a search warrant at Villawood and arrested a 27-year-old man.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station, where he is expected to be charged.
