Police appealing for information after three kangaroos are believed to have been deliberately injured at Muswellbrook.
Hunter Valley Police District (HVPD) officers were called to Wollombi Park at about 8am yesterday, Sunday 19 January, after a bushwalker found three kangaroos seriously injured in scrubland.
Initial inquiries suggest two of the kangaroos may have been deliberately run over by a vehicle while a third kangaroo, which was found deceased, had suffered a wound to the chest.
"We're still now trying to establish what has occurred," said Acting Superintendent Joanne Schultz.
"We're asking for anyone who has any information, or if they might know, or saw anything or heard anything around that early morning or even overnight in that Wollombi Park area if they could just contact us at Muswellbrook Police Station or call Crime Stoppers which is anonymous."
"We see a lot more wildlife in the towns, coming into our parks and reserves and on the roadsides lately particularly because of the drought and now with the bushfires a lot of wildlife have had to come in for feed and water,"
"There would be a lot of kangaroos in this area and for someone to perhaps target these kangaroos, its a pretty disgusting act," said Acting Superintendent Schultz.
"I believe all three have been euthanised, one was already dead and the others were euthanised as well."
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As investigations continue, any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision in the area at the time is urged to come forward.
