Mining giant BHP plans to put on more permanent staff at their Mount Arthur mine at Muswellbrook.

Word began to spread about the move after a "state of the nations address" to employees on site last week where it's understood the company said they were committed to putting on more permanent staff.

General Manager Adam Lancey told employees this week that they will be opening internal Expressions of Interest for 30 roles on site "in a staged approach".

He added that the announcement in no way puts their commitment to Operations Services or the contracted workforce through Chandler Mcleod and Thiess into question.
