Two teenagers will front a Children's Court after leading police on a wild car chase in the Upper Hunter.

Hunter Valley Police District (HVPD) officers say at about 10:40am on Monday 1st July a 15 and 16-year-old male went into an open garage of a property on Isobela St, Muswellbrook where they stole a Toyota Avalon sedan.

The vehicle was spotted an hour later travelling in a southerly direction on the New England Highway at Muswellbrook.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle but it sped up and a police pursuit was initiated.

Police stopped the chase though as the vehicle entered Singleton due to the dangerous driving of the vehicle - it continued on the highway until near the intersection of Kent Street where it attempted to overtake a number of vehicles.

The driver lost control and the car crashed into a parked car and a power pole.

The teenagers ran from the vehicle and tried to hide but police found and arrested them a short time later.

The 16-year-old male was charged with the break and enter, stealing and driving the motor vehicle. The 15-year-old was charged with the break and enter and being the passenger in the vehicle.

Both had their bail refused to attend Children’s Court later in the month.
