Rugby League player charged over altercation that left another player in hospital at Upper Hunter game

A man has been charged after an altercation at a Bengalla Hunter Valley Group 21 game that left another man in hospital. 

At a game between the Denman Devils and the Murrurundi Mavericks at Denman Oval on May 19 an incident occurred in the final minutes that saw a Murrurundi player knocked unconscious and as a result a Denman player was sent from the field. 

The injured Maverick was taken to Muswellbrook District Hospital before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital where he spent a week undergoing treatment for multiple jaw fractures - a number of plates had to be screwed into his jaw.

Hunter Valley Police Officers received a complaint about the incident and commenced an investigation.

As a result on 10th June 2019, with the assistance of officers from the Tuggerah Lakes Police District, a 27-year-old man was arrested at a Lake Haven address.

He was conveyed to Wyong Police Station where he was charged with recklessly cause grievous bodily harm.

The male was granted conditional bail to appear at Wyong Local Court on 3rd July 2019.
