Two trucks caused hold ups near Murrurundi in the early hours of this morning after they collided on the New England Highway.
Emergency services were called to the scene 1 kilometre north of Murrurundi at around 4 o'clock after one semi trailer ran up the back of the truck in front travelling at 80 kilometres an hour.
The driver of one of the trucks suffered minor injuries after being trapped for a short time.
Police say that the driver of the semi trailer at the rear was on a suspended driver licence and a number of critical fatigue breaches were identified in his work diary.
His work diary was confiscated and he will be charged at a later date.
Both heavy vehicle combinations were extensively damaged and towed from the scene.
Emergency services, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) personnel and HAZMAT crews have been working at the scene to clear the busy stretch of road.
