The Teachers union has called on Upper Hunter parents to back their decision to walk off the job next week.

Educators at all local public and catholic schools will strike for 24 hours next Thursday over what have labeled insulting pay increases that will not help address the teacher shortage.

Teachers from across the Upper Hunter will travel on mass down to Newcastle to take part in a protest march and rally at Civic Park.

Teachers Federation Hunter Organiser Jack Galvin Waight said they don't this action lightly but feel like they have been left with no choice.
