The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has acknowledged the valuable contribution of its dedicated volunteers in making the Upper Hunter ‘Better Together’.

That's the theme of National Volunteer Week, which started on Sunday.

The Service has 1500 loyal volunteers including many in the Hunter Valley.

Rescue chopper Chief Executive Richard Jones said volunteers have played a key role in the service they deliver since day one.

"My hat is off and on my chest. I pay tribute to you all that's given us some of your time, expertise and indeed your money.," he said.

"I say thank you to you all. You are the heartbeat of the organisation."
