More nurses quit in Muswellbrook over burnout

Experienced nurses at Muswellbrook Hospital are walking out to go and take on jobs outside healthcare such as in the mines.

That's the word from the local branch of the NSW Nurses and Midwives Association with news that six of their members have resigned from the hospital in the past few weeks after suffering burnout.

It comes after we revealed recently that management is being forced to fill nursing shifts by bringing in staff from outside the Hunter Valley.

Association Muswellbrook branch Vice President Peggy Smith said the resignations will put even more pressure on our local nurses.

"It's leaving us cover a lot more vacant shifts, continuously doing double and split shifts, things like that," she said.

"This is just adding to the burnout. It can't continue like this."
