Bad news for the Hunter Valley wine industry with a significant drop in the amount of our product being exported overseas.
Australian wine exports fell by 26 per cent in value to $2.05 billion and 13 per cent in volume to 628 million litres in the year to March 2022.
Rachel Triggs from Wine Australia, who compile the stats, says there are several reasons for the downturn.
"The imposition of exceptionally high deposit tariffs by China, the global freight crisis is causing supply chain issues where we can't get wine off our shores fast enough and in some markets there was some stockpiling in some markets because of the pandemic."
