Local sporting and community groups are being reminded the Sports and Recreational Grants Program is still open for applications.
The program offers awards for maintenance, refurbishment and improvements to sporting and recreational facilities around the Muswellbrook Shire Council area.
Grants are available on a matched funding (dollar-for-dollar) basis up to a value of $2000 per project (small category grants) and $50,000 (large category grants).
The grants program is in addition to council's General Recreation Program, which funds works for the community's fields, facilities and playgrounds.
Council Mayor Rod Scholes has reminded residents that are interested that the closing date is at the end of the month.
"They close on September 30th and we're well and truly into that now.
"The applications and guidelines are available at the Muswellbrook Council website.
"The council centre is closed right now but applicants can head to the website or call 6549 3700 and they will give you some assistance," Mr Scholes said.
Council’s General Manager Fiona Plesman said the goal of the program is to improve facilities and create tighter bonds between council and user groups and build capacity within sporting associations.
"The need for matched funding assists in community building within user groups through group-based fundraising meetings and events and engenders a greater sense of pride and sense of ownership of the facilities.
"It also helps to encourage clubs to continue to operate sustainably at the same time as they address the cost of wear and tear on equipment and facilities," she said.
Applications for this round of funding will be open from 1 September 2021 to 30 September 2021.
