A teenager has tragically died after a crash near Tamworth early on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to Bendemeer at about 7am responding to reports that a Hyundai Hatch had hit a tree after leaving the New England Highway, about 40km north of Tamworth.
The 17-year-old driver – and only occupant – was assisted at the scene by passing motorists, before NSW Ambulance paramedics and officers attached to Oxley Police District arrived.
The teenager was trapped for some time before being released.
She was stabilised and airlifted to John Hunter Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter where she died.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
