There's a revamp on the way for the Merriwa Driver Reviver.

Upper Hunter Shire Council applied for funding for the project under the Federal Government’s Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Program and received $150,000 to undertake the works.

The Driver Reviver plans were put on display for community feedback in May last year and will be built at Merriwa Park on the corner of King George V Ave and Quigley Street Merriwa.

Once the new facility has been completed, which is approximately 32m2 and constructed of Colourbond and cladding on a concrete slab, the old facility will be demolished.

The Driver Reviver will have a hand washing basin, security roller shutters and a covered outside aluminum bench seats and table.

The new location will increase safety and parking opportunities, and create a space for tourists to stop and visit the town.

Merriwa Rotary Club and members of the community have been working closely with Council to ensure the project will meet the needs of the Merriwa community.

Federal Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said the new facilities will greatly enhance the town’s presence as a tourist stop over.

“It’s great to see these developments underway in Merriwa, supporting local jobs, trade suppliers and driving the tourist dollar just that little bit further in cafes and shops across town,” Barnaby Joyce said.
