A body, believed to be that of a missing woman from Port Macquarie has been located on a rural property.

78-year-old Adele Morrison was reported missing in March when she was last seen leaving her Port Macquarie home to head to Gloucester, but hasn't been heard from since.

Family members reported her missing to Mid North Coast police on Wednesday 17 March, and investigators conducted extensive inquiries and coordinated searches into her whereabouts.

On March 25, amid a once-in-a-hundred year flood event in the area her car was found in floodwaters in the Barrington River, but no one was inside.

About 5.15pm yesterday, a property owner notified police after locating the body of a woman on the riverbank of his rural property on Barrington West Road, Barrington.

Officers from Manning Great Lakes Police District attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic police.

The body is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be that of the missing woman.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
