Some essential maintenance work on the Sandy Hollow Bridge is about to get underway.

There will be changed traffic conditions on the Bylong Valley Way at Sandy Hollow so Transport for NSW can carry out the work starting Monday 12 April.

The work includes structural repairs and installing temporary supports.

From Monday 12 to Thursday 22 April and from Monday 3 to Thursday 6 May work will be carried out between 6.30am and 4.30pm from Monday to Thursday, depending on the weather.

During this work, the bridge will remain open with occasional single lane closures and a temporary 40km/h speed limit in place. Occasional bridge closures of up to 15 minutes may also take place throughout the last week of work and may affect travel times.

To reduce impact to motorists, work requiring temporary bridge closures to heavy vehicles will be carried out over four nights from Monday 26 April between 6pm and 3.30am and is expected to be complete by 3.30am on Friday 30 April, weather permitting.

Heavy vehicles weighing more than 4.5 tonnes or higher than 4.2m will be required to detour via the Golden Highway and Yarrawa Road, which will add up to 34 kilometres to journeys or about 27 minutes travel time.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
