Driver tragically dies at the scene of a truck accident at Jerrys Plains

A driver has tragically died at the scene of a truck accident at Jerrys Plains.

Emergency services were called to the Golden Highway, 10km north-west of Jerrys Plains just before 11am responding to reports of a single-vehicle truck crash.

The prime mover, with attached trailer, was travelling east along the Golden Highway, near Edderton Road, when it left the road and crashed heavily into an embankment.

The driver and sole occupant of the truck, a 56-year-old man, died at the scene.

A crime scene was established, and Hunter Valley Police District officers have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The Golden Highway is closed in both directions at Jerrys Plains after a fatal truck crash near Edderton Road.

Motorists in light vehicles can divert via Queen Street, Jones Reserve Road, Bureen Road, Martindale Road, Yarrawa Road, Virginia Street and Crinoline Street.

Heavy vehicles need to use the New England Highway instead.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, and should follow directions of emergency services and traffic crews on site.
