Nominations close at 5 this afternoon to contest the upcoming local government elections.
So far in Upper Hunter Shire there is not even enough nominations to fill the nine vacant positions with just six people putting their hands up.
This includes current Mayor Maurice Collison, who previously stated he would not be running again.
Meanwhile in Muswellbrook Shire the interest is high with 11 candidates nominating on top of the existing councillors who are standing again.
With just hours to go one of them who has not yet nominated according to the Elections NSW website is Mayor Steve Reynolds.
In Singleton there are six existing councillors, who are running again and five new candidates.
