Surprising new research suggests older residents in the Upper Hunter are among the most cyber‑aware in the country, with seniors far more likely to take steps to protect themselves online than younger people.
The study shows 83 per cent of those aged over 65 are engaging in proactive safety measures, such as creating strong passphrases, monitoring accounts and avoiding suspicious links.
In contrast, younger Australians are taking more risks, with 55 per cent of 18 to 24‑year‑olds admitting to reusing the same password across multiple accounts. Almost 60 per cent say they knowingly use weak passwords.
