Ungooroo have opened a new purpose-built Specialist Hub in the Singleton Centre, giving the community direct access to services that have historically required long travel times.

The facility has been delivered with support from the Federal Government and Glencore, and sits next to Ungooroo’s existing clinic. The hub aims to provide culturally safe, local specialist care for First Nations people while also supporting the wider Singleton and Hunter communities.

ICON Cancer Centre has signed on as a key tenant and is already offering oncology consultations within the new space. The design and location of the hub are intended to remove significant transport barriers that have previously made accessing specialist care difficult for many residents.

Ungooroo CEO Taasha Layer says the hub represents a major step forward in strengthening local healthcare options and ensuring families can access support closer to home.

“The Specialist Hub has been purpose-built and can offer both in-person and telehealth services,” she said.

“Being able to offer specialist care for patients locally not only helps improve access, but helps deliver long-term health outcomes for everyone.

“When specialists are so far away, many people delay getting care because of the time and travel involved. So we built the hub to bring care closer to home and make access easier for communities across the Upper Hunter.”
