Two men have been charged following a fatal multi-vehicle crash near Cessnock earlier this year that killed a 50-year-old motorcyclist.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Cessnock Road and Kemp Street, Neath, about 6.25pm on Friday 24 April 2026, following reports of a crash involving a red utility, a silver utility, and a motorcycle. The female rider was treated at the scene for serious leg injuries before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition. She died in hospital the following day.
The male drivers of the utes, aged 21 and 57, were uninjured but taken to hospital for mandatory testing. Officers from the Hunter Crash Investigation Unit launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
On Friday 7 August 2026, police issued the 57-year-old man with a Court Attendance Notice for driving with an illicit drug present in his blood. He is due to appear at Cessnock Local Court on Thursday 17 September 2026.
The 21-year-old man was issued with a Court Attendance Notice for a series of offences, including dangerous driving occasioning death while under the influence, negligent driving occasioning death, negligent driving, causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a vehicle, and driving with a special range prescribed concentration of alcohol. His licence has been suspended, and he is due to appear at Cessnock Local Court on Wednesday 23 September 2026.
