Telstra customers across the Pokolbin area were left without phone and internet services yesterday, in the latest of several outages to affect the Hunter this month.

Mobile services were knocked out across Pokolbin, Rothbury and Milbrodale after a fibre cable was vandalised and damaged on Broke Road, with Telstra crews working through the day to restore connections. The company was also investigating a separate fault affecting landlines and fixed services for homes and businesses along Oakey Creek Road and McDonalds Road in Pokolbin.

The disruptions come less than two weeks after a major nationwide Telstra outage on Wednesday 8 July, which the company attributed to a software defect affecting time-synchronisation servers at data centres in Sydney and Melbourne. That failure disrupted mobile calls and data across the country for several hours, temporarily affected access to the Triple Zero emergency line, and forced the suspension of rail services in parts of the Hunter Valley and the NSW Southern Highlands.
