Snake season has well and truly started across the Upper Hunter, with locals reporting more sightings as the weather warms up.
Residents are being urged to stay cautious around homes, yards, and walking tracks, and to know the right steps to take if they come across one.

- Contact your local Council or WIRES (1300 094 737) if you need support.
- Don’t attempt to handle it yourself.
- Don’t harm the snake — they’re a protected species and play a vital role in the ecosystem.
Community members, and even a local MP have already shared multiple sightings on social media, and a number of people have sought advice on what to do if they come across a ‘nope rope’.
Council and wildlife groups are reminding residents to stay safe, watch where they step, and leave snake handling to the experts.
