Residents oppose proposed refuge in Singleton

Plans to establish a new refuge in Singleton for women and children escaping domestic and family violence may have hit a hurdle.

140 residents who live near the proposed site for the six-unit facility have signed a petition against it.

A development application has been lodged with Singleton Council to construct the $5.5 million facility to provide emergency accommodation for women and children fleeing an unsafe home.

Residents spokesperson Theresa said they only found out at the eleventh hour by accident.

“The proposed structures will not fit into the character of the neighbourhood,” she said
