Police appeal to locate man wrongly released from prison

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a man wanted on an outstanding warrant after he was mistakenly released from custody.

Kyle Quayle, aged 35, is wanted for being unlawfully at large after being mistakenly released from a correctional centre on Tuesday 14 April 2026. He was serving a sentence for stealing and assault‑related offences at the time.

Officers attached to the Newcastle City Police District have commenced inquiries into his whereabouts and have released an image of Quayle as part of the appeal.

He is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 180 centimetres tall, of medium build, with black hair, brown eyes and an unshaven appearance.

Police believe Quayle may be in the Newcastle area. Anyone who sees him or has information on his whereabouts is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
