The end of an era today in the Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter communities.
The Liddell Power Station came to life in 1972, back in the days when climate change and our unquenchable thirst for electricity to power our 2023 conveniences, weren’t even on the horizon.
Today 52 years on, the off switch has been flicked by owner AGL as part of the move away from coal fired power stations.
Jo Ferguson has worked at Liddell for almost a decade and said it will always hold a special place in her heart.
Local State MP Dave Layzell said Liddell has served us all well.
“Everyone who has worked at Liddell deserve the community’s thanks,” he said.
Muswellbrook Mayor Steve Reynolds said the facility played a big part in making the Upper Hunter what it is today.
