“No comment here” on our Gummun Place stories

More questions but no answers about the management of the debt causing Gummun Place Hostel at Merriwa.

The council’s operation of the town’s only nursing home has racked up more than $2-million in debt over the past five years.

We can reveal that some of the agency staff we told you about yesterday being brought down from Queensland to fill shifts are being put up in two of the six in-demand independent living units.

The interstate workers were previously housed at a range of local accommodation facilities.

We understand the waiting list for the units from locals is growing.

Our questions to Upper Hunter Shire Council were met with a “no comment here”

This was followed by a post on their official Facebook account criticising some of the coverage we have reported in recent days.

This was quickly met with barrage of angry comments from unhappy ratepayers in different parts of the shire.

A number called for the General Manager Greg McDonald to be sacked and for the government to appoint an administrator.
