A statewide snap review has identified nine serious or non‑routine hospital maintenance issues across the Hunter New England region in the past year. The Health Minister ordered the review this week to assess the scale of emerging problems across NSW’s health facilities.
Of the nine local issues, NSW Health says five have been resolved, while four are still being repaired. The problems range from storm‑related damage to pests and water ingress, reflecting similar challenges seen across the state following severe weather.
Some items requiring further work to fully rectify include roof rectification works at Muswellbrook Hospital.
Statewide, the review has so far uncovered 112 significant issues, including mould, roof rectification works and ongoing pigeon infestations at some facilities. 74 of these have been fixed, 32 are being repaired and six require further investigation.
The Minister says it’s not realistic to claim maintenance issues won’t occur in health facilities, but emphasised that teams act quickly to address problems as they arise.
