Muswellbrook junior Brydie Parker is preparing for a shot at redemption this Sunday, as the Sydney Roosters face the Brisbane Broncos in a rematch of last year’s NRLW Grand Final.
Parker said there was plenty of motivation within the squad following last year’s result.
“There’s a lot of fire in the belly after how the grand final finished last year,” she said.
“The prep this week’s been really good. We’re really, really excited.”
Sunday’s match will be her sixth NRLW Grand Final appearance. Parker scored a try in last year’s decider and is hoping for a similar moment this weekend.
Parker said her hometown community had been firmly behind her throughout the week. Her parents, both brothers, sister-in-law, niece and nephew will all travel from Muswellbrook to watch the match.
“I’ve had plenty of messages across the week showing their support and how proud the community is of me,” she said.
“I’m really proud to represent my hometown of Muswellbrook, and hopefully I can go out and do them all proud on Sunday.”
On the field, Parker has enjoyed a standout season on the wing, crossing for 11 tries in 12 games, largely playing outside teammate Jess Sergis. Having played fullback in last year’s grand final, Parker said she had no strong preference on position.
“I’ve had a lot of fun playing outside Jess this year,” she said.
“Any position I’m put at, I’ll just do my best.”
