Muswellbrook Mayor defends proposed rate rise

Muswellbrook Mayor Steve Reynolds has defended council’s decision to increase rates from July.

The draft fees and charges for 2023/24 are currently out for community feedback and include upping the rates by 3.7 per cent.

Last year the permissible zero-point-seven of a per cent rise was not passed on after a motion to absorb the cost was successfully put forward by Councillor Jeff Drayton.

Muswellbrook Mayor Steve Reynolds says the increases from this July can be easily justified.

This is on top of water and sewage charges going up on average by 400-dollars per house,
